Pocamarket: Customs & Duties Guide

🚚
Everything you need to know about customs when your photocards ship from Korea to you.
Buying and collecting on Pocamarket is simple — and customs only comes into play at one moment: when you request shipment. This guide explains when duties apply, how they're handled, and who sets them, so there are no surprises.

Q1. When do I pay customs duties on Pocamarket?

You can buy and store photocards in your Collect Book with no customs charges.
Customs duties only apply when you request shipment, at the Checkout step — never when you buy an item.
Many countries recently removed their duty-free (de minimis) allowances, so duties now apply to international parcels regardless of the order value.

Q2. Does Pocamarket decide how much duty or tax I pay?

No. Pocamarket does not set customs duties or taxes.
All import duties, VAT/GST, and customs clearance fees follow the rates set by each destination country's customs authority.
"Customs charges" (duties and taxes) refers collectively to import duties, VAT/GST, and any customs clearance or handling fees — not just the duty itself.
These rates vary by country and may change based on local policy.

Q3. How is customs handled — do I pay at Checkout or on arrival?

It depends on your destination country and shipping method. Which one applies is always shown at Checkout before you confirm.
Paid at Checkout: For some destinations and shipping methods (for example, all shipments to the US), the customs charge is shown as a separate line item at Checkout. You pay it upfront, and there's no additional customs charge on arrival.
Paid on arrival: For other destinations and shipping methods, your local customs charges import duties, VAT/GST, and clearance fees to the recipient when the parcel arrives. These are set and collected by your destination country's customs.
Checking your destination country's customs rates, thresholds, and requirements is the customer's responsibility.

Q4. Can I see the exact customs amount before I ship? Will buying more photocards increase it?

The final customs amount is decided by your destination country's customs, so an exact figure can't be guaranteed in advance.
For destinations where customs is collected at Checkout, the amount is shown as a line item before you confirm. For destinations charged on arrival, it's determined by your local customs when the parcel arrives.
Customs generally depends on the types and value of the items in your shipment, so a larger or more varied order can result in a higher charge.

Q5. Are there any other charges besides the customs duty itself?

Possibly. Depending on your destination and carrier, there may be additional charges beyond the basic import duty.
These can include VAT/GST and a carrier or customs handling fee for processing and collecting the duty. Some countries may also apply their own local taxes or fees.
All of these are set and collected by your destination country's customs or carrier — not by Pocamarket.

Q6. I'm shipping to the US. Why is a customs charge added before delivery?

For the US, duties are collected at Checkout, so you pay upfront and there's nothing extra to pay when your parcel arrives.

Q7. Is there any way to avoid or reduce the customs charge?

Customs duties are set by your destination country's customs, so they can't be waived, lowered, or avoided by Pocamarket.
The one thing you can compare is your shipping method — the total cost can differ between methods, so choosing the option with the lower total cost is the best way to keep your costs down. This is shown at Checkout before you confirm.

Q8. Which shipping method should I choose?

You can choose your shipping method at Checkout based on your country.
Because the total cost can differ between methods, compare your options and choose the one with the lower total cost for your shipment.

Q9. Can I get a refund or return a parcel because of customs charges?

No. Customs duties, VAT/GST, and other import-related charges are non-refundable, and a parcel cannot be returned or refunded because of them.
If a parcel is refused and returned, it may have been opened, inspected by customs, or damaged in transit, so it may no longer hold its original value.
Because these charges are set and collected by your local customs or carrier — not by Pocamarket — we're unable to refund them.
